Newtownabbey
is a large urban area in County Antrim, Northern
Ireland, to the north of Belfast. Newtownabbey
Urban Area includes a large number of smaller
towns and villages, including Carnmoney, Glengormley,
Jordanstown, Monkstown, Rathcoole and Whiteabbey.
The Newtownabbey area has a population of approximately
82,000 people. It is served by Newtownabbey Borough
Council.
The
new town of Newtownabbey was created in 1958 out
of the existing villages of Carnmoney, Glengormley,
Jordanstown, Monkstown, Whitehouse, Whitewell
and Whiteabbey.
