How are conductors chosen for the Conducting Masterclass?

Beyond Borders is a new organisation however we have a pool of many independent external advisors who work at the frontline of talent development in the UK and are asked to help to assess applications.

All of our applications for the ‘Conductor’s Package’ stream are assessed by Rebecca Miller (Founder), and representatives from Ikon Arts Management. It is important to note timing of decisions before you submit any application.

What quality video should I submit for my ‘Conductor’s Package’ participant application?

In the application process for the ‘Conducto'r’s Package’ stream, you will be asked to submit an existing recording (in .Mov, or .MP4 format) of you conducting a minimum of 2 musicians. This may be the recording you wish to receive feedback on in a masterclass setting, or one that is most representative of your conducting technique/experience. We are not looking for high-quality, cinematic experiences, just an example of your best work.

Please upload the link to an example of no longer than 15 minutes in duration, using a free, online file sharing service (e.g. WeTransfer, Google Docs, etc.)

We expect direct links to specific tracks or songs as opposed to a landing/profile pages where it is not clear which track an advisor should listen to.

It is your responsibility to ensure that links work up to 12 weeks after they’re uploaded – don’t take them down within the assessment period. If you’re using a password protected site or private link, ensure that you provide us with the relevant password.

I do not think I am eligible to apply. Should I?

Beyond Borders is open to anyone.

Each of our series has a particular focus / theme - for example, emerging conductors, music educators, diversity - but we encourage anyone who is interested in learning and sharing ideas to join us.

Please see our Join Us page for further details about our various participant streams.

If in doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
